Earthquake and the Mental Health Survey

There is no reliable epidemiological data showing how Covid-19 pandemic and the recent earthquakes have affected mental health nationwide in Turkey. Therefore, research on the total population is needed. In this study, the prevalence of mental illnesses and associated factors will be investigated in a randomly selected sample of 5000 individuals representing the adult population of Turkey. Participants will be identified using the Random Digit Dial (RDD) method. The total number of people to be contacted will be determined based on information obtained from previous studies. It is estimated that around 10,000 valid (active line) phones will need to be dialled to reach 5000 completed interviews. A group of 50 interviewers, consisting of university students or graduates trained in the use of Composite International Diagnostic Interview (CIDI-5) by the research team, will be involved. The interviewers will conduct the interviews over the phone and enter the responses into tablets containing the CIDI interview.
